2022-2023 Season - Project #1

For our inaugural project, Classical C.A.R.M.A. is collaborating with SEARCH Homeless services, an organization that has served the Houston community since 1989, with a goal of ending the cycle of homelessness. This project is comprised of four concerts - three, FREE concerts performed for members of Houston’s homeless community and one fundraising concert for SEARCH. Thanks to the wonderful and generous supporters of Classical C.A.R.M.A., such as yourself, there is absolutely no cost to SEARCH, or any of our future partners, for projects.

This project will feature the premiere of a newly commissioned work for violin, cello, and electroacoustics, composed by Christopher Theofanidis and Mark Wingate. The combination of live violin and cello with electroacoustic playback will create an otherworldly, magical sound, complementing and enhancing the individual instruments' sounds.

There are three goals for this project:

1) To fundraise for SEARCH - all proceeds raised at the final benefit concert go directly to SEARCH.

2) To raise awareness of SEARCH’s mission and the work they do for Houston:

SEARCH Homeless Services “pursues a mission of providing hope, creating opportunity, and transforming lives of men, women, and children who are trying to break free from the cycle of poverty and homelessness” ( - please check out their website for more information about what they do!) SEARCH Homeless services’ values, as listed on their website, promise that they are a client centered organization, committed to integrity, trust, and authentic communication.

3) To utilize the stress-reducing and healing powers of classical music, entertaining the audience and providing relief from every day stressors. As Elton John has said, “Music has healing power. It has the ability to take people out of themselves for a few hours.”
